Who runs the Medvedgrad Center?

The Medvednica Nature Park is managed by a public institution under the Croatian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development. The founder of the Institution is the Republic of Croatia, and the rights and obligations of the Institution’s founder are performed by the Croatian Government.

The Institution’s activities include the protection, maintenance, and promotion of the Medvednica Nature Park in order to protect and preserve virgin nature, ensure unimpeded occurrence of natural processes and sustainable use of natural resources, monitoring the implementation of terms and measures of environmental protection within the managed area, and participation in the collection of data for the purpose of monitoring the conservation effort.

The Institution’s bodies are the Steering Board and the Director. The Institution is managed by the Steering Board, while the Director is in charge of the organization and running of the Institution’s business process and represents the Institution.

About the project “Improving visitor capacity for the purpose of sustainable management of Medvednica Nature Park”

 

The project “Improving visitor capacity for the purpose of sustainable management of Medvednica Nature Park” is the most valuable project in the history of the Medvednica Nature Park, which will design the “Visitor Center Medvedgrad” and improve the visitor infrastructure.

 

The project goal

The overall objective of the project is to establish a sustainable use of the natural heritage of the Medvednica Nature Park and related facilities in order to contribute to sustainable socio-economic development at the local/regional level.  

 

The specific objective of the project

To protect, valorize, educate and promote sustainable management of the natural heritage destination, to protect the cultural and natural heritage of the Medvednica Nature Park within the program of the Medvedgrad Visitor Center and related facilities, making it a recognizable tourist destination that contributes to socio-economic development.

 

Predicted results

The project will reconstruct the cultural heritage and equip the new Visitor Center Medvedgrad, provide facilities for visitors and their stay in nature, create new capacities for sustainable management of natural heritage, improve tourism offer, and consequently create new jobs.

The project envisages arranging bicycle routes, signage inside and outside the Park and enriching the educational and interpretative offer of the Park through the creation of a series of programs. The project focuses on the careful development of tourism in the Park, that is, on visitor management based on the Visitor Management Action Plan at Medvednica Nature Park.

Environmental and Energy Efficiency Fund with HRK 2,921,296.22.
