The nature that surrounds us provides us with air, water, and everything else necessary for life. We have to be eco-conscious in order to preserve the nature for the future – and healthy habits are best formed in childhood. We run outdoor educational courses for school children to help them get familiar with nature and learn how to protect natural resources for the future.

Children as the guardians of nature

Unfortunately, we are harming nature and natural resources in all kinds of ways. Environmental problems are on the increase and it’s high time to start thinking about a healthy future.
Children have proven to be great promoters of eco-friendly habits – so it’s important to teach kids how to care for nature.
In our courses, kids will learn what nature looks like and why it’s important to maintain the diversity of natural resources. They will transfer that knowledge to their peers, parents, and relatives – this is how we preserve the natural resources of Croatia.

The Medvednica Nature Park is a protected area that harbors many plant and animal species. In our workshops, children will experience the plant and animal world in an interesting and effective way – as well as learn how to save the nature for a better tomorrow.
The workshops are mostly held outdoors in Medvednica – there is no musty theory, everything can be seen and experienced during the workshop.
Workshop programs are thematic, their content and methodology is adapted to different age groups of elementary school children, and are run by seasoned staff of the Medvednica Park.
Various workshops on different topics

Through our workshops, children can learn about different aspects of nature. In a fun, but very detailed way, they will gain information that they probably haven’t know.
They will embark on an adventure that will encourage them to take better care of nature and learn about the workings of the world around them.
In the workshops, they can learn what trees are made of and how they breathe, about their fruits and how they can be used, who does what in the forest ecosystem, how to navigate in the woods, why birds are an important part of every forest, what is a deciduous forests and what are its plant species, and more. What if I were a tree?

If you want to teach your kid what trees are made of and why they have roots and a crown – this workshop is an excellent choice.
In the workshop, kids will learn why trees breathe and what they need to survive. The workshop is designed as an entertaining team game where children will gain awareness of the importance of forest protection.

Products and fruits of the forest

Our homes are full of products and fruits of the forest, even though we don’t give them much thought. In this workshop, children will learn about the products that are made from wood and which forest plants we use every day.
The aim of the workshop is raise awareness about the role of forests and plants in our everyday lives.
The network of life

The forest is hiding an entire ecosystem where every element has its unique role. Through the workshop, children will learn about the producers, consumers, and decomposers and how the food chain works.
Kids will gain hands-on experience about the workings of plants and animals in nature and how they’re all interconnected.
The birds and the worms

Some animals are extremely skillful at using mimicry in nature – in order to survive in their environment.
Through play and fun, kids will learn that colors are extremely important as a defense against enemies and how some animals outsmart far larger opponents by smartly adapting to their environment.

Bats

Many of us are afraid of bats, due to misguided beliefs from our childhood. Bats are not at all scary, and it’s important to learn how they function and why they’re important to the natural environment.
At the workshop, children will learn how bats fly, what they eat, how they “see” with their ears, why they are a protected species, etc.
Navigation

Finding our way in the forest is very problematic for most of people, but if we learn the basics of orientation during childhood, we shouldn’t have any difficulties later on in life.
In this workshop, children will learn how to use the map and compass. They will also learn the role of mountain markers and how to navigate using trees, the sun, shadows and the stars.
Forest adventure

Forest adventure is a team workshop where children can learn how to protect nature and why this is important in a dynamic, fun, and educational way. Through play and while using their wits, they will solve various team tasks and learn the importance of coordination, skill, speed, resourcefulness, etc.
This workshop is a great choice for a field trip with students.
Deciduous forest

Medvednica abounds with various forest species, and in this workshop, children will learn to recognize certain species. They will learn to recognize seemingly similar species using various tips and tricks and also find out how species change in different altitudes.
The goal of the workshop is to encourage children to help preserve nature and learn how to maintain natural balance.
